BTRnews 20050227: Back where it all began

Post by DavidH_aus »

> This week, BTR Audio is re-releasing its first-ever Doctor Who audio dramas produced by BTR way back in 1998, The Invasion of the Daleks and Sentinel. Despite featuring primitive sound design, dodgy acting, and a script with plot holes large enough to drive a Nation through, The Invasion of the Daleks still remains extremely entertaining -- even after seven years of newer, more polished, releases.

From the moment an explosion destroys the Green Park Tube station, the Doctor and Chloe are thrown into the evil world of the Daleks.

The Daleks have issued Earth authorities with an ultimatum -- help them escape Earth, or London will be destroyed.

However, the Doctor knows the Daleks of old, and somehow feels that this Dalek ship at the bottom of the lake is there because of more than a damaged engine. And behind the entire scheme is someone whom the Doctor has fought many times before.

The Doctor will need all of his wits, and with Chloe's help, must thwart the Daleks' plan before all of London is destroyed.

By contrast, Sentinel benefitted from of a number of technical improvements, notably professional-quality dialogue recording at the School of Audio Engineering in Brisbane -- for what became the only time these studios were used. The improvements in scripting and sound design also show the progress the fledgling group had made in just a few short months, and would continue to make in the years to come.

After defeating the Daleks' attempt at destroying London, the Doctor and Chloe feel that a rest on Centauri 7 is just the thing.

However, the universe has other plans for the Doctor.

After being dragged off-course by an unknown energy beam, the Tardis materialises on board the space station Sentinel -- the place of a top-secret military project that only a select few know about.

Whilst scouting around for some replacement parts for the Tardis, the station comes under attack from an unknown force -- a force that both the Doctor and the Captain of Sentinel know of only too well.

Once again, the Doctor must gather his wits in time and discover what alien secrets Sentinel hides...
