Dalek

30 minutes of 'ooo, that's good' and 15 minutes of 'ah, so that's how you destroy 40 years of building up a damned fine terrifying reputation in one fell swoop'.

WHAT THE HELL WAS ALL THAT ABOUT????

Enjoyed all the other episodes - thought they were damned good actually - then this...

sigh...

:(

These are the metrosexual touchy-feely new-age Daleks, singularly devoted to their mission of realigning the chakras of all non-Dalek species. I half expected the Doctor and Rose to hold its hands and skip off into the sunset

Decent effort though, even if it did end in a rather wet and soppy way.

You two are joking, aren't you?

It was superb! And yes, the touchy feely ending bit didn't detract at all...made sense in the story etc.

What were you after? Official confirmation that all Daleks do is kill kill kill and therefore there are no other possible dramatic interpretations? Tsk tsk...

Don't worry...I'm sure in a few weeks you might get your wish.

ahem...

YES!

Hated the last few minutes, really really hated it.

I went 'tch' and everything.

Since when can Daleks get in touch with their inner human? Should have experienced a moment's conscience and then got over it - allowing Rose to escape before on with the zapping.

(Did love the 'sorry, i was a bit slow' line, brought a tear etc)

Daleks do not respond to therapy, they are not that way because they had a bad upbringing - they are evil little sob's and should be allowed to go around killing and maiming and not be subjected to godawful 'i absorbed your DNA and now just want to be loved' nonsense

muttermuttermumble

(Keith doesn't agree with me, by the way. He diplomatically went and made a cup of tea while I ranted)

Shit.

This means there might be the possibility of the Dunn and I actually agreeing on something.......oh dear.

The point about it was (and I simply can't believe its me telling you this and not the other way around, lol) the Dalek was changing...it was mutating (things like this happen in science fiction, or so Im lead to believe) On top of that, it was alone. Comepletly alone. No orders. No superiors. No inferiors. Now..it could have just done a comedy spin with a dodgy video effect then turned into a small pile of ash - Im so glad it didn't, lol. It simply couldn't handle all that was happening to it. Think of all the years of torture too. Then the bloke in the box vworps up and all this happens....dear me, I'd get a little confused if it happened to me, I can tell ya that! lol.

Also, it showed us just how badly the Doc has been affected by this Time War thingy. In the end, he was the one acting like a dalek, as pointed out.

Sorry, superb drama and made perfect dramatic sense.

If your gonna show how badly the Doc is loosing it, the what better way to mirror it then by using a Dalek?

Yartek, leader of the alien voord? No.

P.S. shouldn't your tag read "Zarbi deserve everything they get"?

Had no problem at all with the Doc losing it - loved that bit, in fact.

But they've gone and done a Hugh of Borg episode on us.

How YOU would react in that situation should in no way be compared to how the pepper pot would react. You're human (no jokes from the cheap seats please), it's a pre-programmed killing machine in a funny shaped box. It has no feelings except hate. All it knows is how to kill.

I accept that it was mutating, but PLEASE...

I was waiting for it to say 'show me some more of this earth thing called kissing'.

There are a whole generation of kids out there now who think the Daleks are wussies who cry if put in a slightly sticky spot.

Look at the Dalek in Remembrance. It was alone so it tried to take as many people out with it as it could.

It just did not work for me.

(By the way, Keith says he cannot bring himself to agree with you so will watch it again tonight and change his mind)

I did actually think about I Borg....heh.
Yup, pre programmed killing machine......but the thing about machines is they tend to go a bit wonky every now and again. Chuck in an organic componant and well... They did something nicely different (for who) and Im so glad they did.

And again, I suggest waiting a few weeks just to see if we do go back to the old "seek, locate, exterminate" gregorian chanting of old I'm sure we will....

As for the opther episodes, well..wasn't over fond of Aliens of London two parter. The Slitheen somewhat let it down, Im afraid.

I agree with Purcell face that its starting to look like the weakest writer on the show is RTD.

It's such a shame that the audience figures for the 2-parter will be rock bottom because no one could stomach another hour and a half of blubbering daleks!

I'm a man of simple tastes, MacFadyan. I like my wheels to be round, my beer to be bitter, my women to be curvy and my Daleks to be psychotic killing machines who are only ever vanquished by good old-fashioned senseless violence and heavy artillary. I don't approve of messing too much with the natural order of things.

Funny Hobbit should mention it as thoughts of bl00dy Hugh Borg were going through my mind as I was watching our Dalek chum consider the meaning of life while contemplating his navel. Don't get me wrong, I still quite enjoyed it but the ancient sf trick of humanising the aliens is almost as old as sf itself and a little too Buffy The Vampire Slayer teen angsty for an old cynic like me. I'm with the Doctor on this one ..... so what if he just wants to be loved? F!!k that and nuke the bastard!!

Though you could ask, if a Dalek were to contemplate his navel then where on earth would he start looking for it?

Lets hand this over to Joe Public, or, a friend of mine, lets call her Bert...

Bert is, as we all know, a viewer of the Ant n Dec, Pop idol variety. She thought old Dr Who, and I quote, "shit"
However, she totally got the point about the dalek changing, why it was happening etc. SDhe didnt ask why the dalek wasnt just killing things - she got the point - which as its Bert we;re talking about, shows that the show nailed it. She enjoyed the action and the effects and enjoyed the journey that the dalek made...I know, sounds daft, but thatsa what it was. She did say, hopwever, that she'd have liked to see a lot more of the lil buggers.

One point, the Dalek changing was not of its making - it didnt realise what the im-plications were about taking Rose's dna rather then a non time traveller......the Doc's change very much was...he admited that it was he who destroyed the daleks...and, it seems, the time lords.

(as an aside, it interests me strangely that the Helicopter call sign was Bad Wolf one....why? why was it this? I do hope itll be explained rather then just a "lets just throw the term in anywhere" Also, and I think Im right here, the dalek commented on the darkness when considering what it picked up from rose - didnt the maid in the unquiet callow m,ention the darkness juist before the bad wulluf thing?)

I can see your points about daleks should just be daleks...and yes, I can agree with them. But for a one off exploration of the Current Dr / Dalek relationship and how its affected ol big ears (which coiuld actually apply to both of em...erm....ol big ears/nose, there, thats better) it worked and worked well enough for all the Bert's out there to gety a handle on.

I feel that when they reture they will be back to their menacing best, ala Dalek Empire.....but with the new who twisty thingy about time wars and big bad wolves.

At least I certainly hope so....that they return, I mean. Properly, not jsut some illusion of the mind or somesuch noinese.
