It was probably that Movellan virus that's been going around.
Seriously, though, it is sad news. At 82 perhaps not very surprising, though. It's easy to forget just how old the series is and that most of the people there at the beginning are already dead (add 45 years to their ages at the time - even Carole Ann Ford is going to be 69 this year)
