I enjoy it, but it is not, and never will be - how shall I put this? - Doctor Who. I hear the theme music and my stomach flips. But then Christopher Eccleston appears, looking dour in his leather jacket, and I have an overwhelming sense of loss.
For a long time (before there was any talk of a new series) I've been of the opinion that a return of Doctor Who will please no one. You've got the old obsessive fans who will complain that the shows history has been ignored or twisted. You've got the parents and grandparents of today who have a false memory of how good the old series was in 'their day' - you can't win against such nostalgia. Then you've got the kids of today who'd rather be playing on their PS2s than ever watch a 'family' programme (not that I imagine most families gather around TVs of an evening anymore at all).
I hope I'm wrong but I can't quite see how it can ever compete in this fragmented entertainment world anymore. No doubt it will be quite good, probably very good. Is that enough for it to survive, though?

whilst I think your right in some respects, at the same time, I do think/hope that yes, some people will enjoy it.
The trouble is that the wrong people got hold of the early draft cut thingy of rose. Why the wrong people? Cos the only ones who'll d/l it are the mpatient uber fans and they wont like it at all...far too modern, ooh no.
Trouble is, its those moaners the press and possibly the beeb, will listen to. The silent ones, the ones who rather enjoy it, your everyday bods in teh street, will not get a voice unless they shout.
Did I mention the huge PA system I bought recently...?

Adam is right in all respects IMHO.
Too much attention is paid to what fans say they want when the truth is fans aren't particularly well placed to make that judgement. Programme makers should just concentrate on making a good product and if they succeed in that then the fans will follow.
Mind you, I'm no impatient uber-fan and I've downloaded it and if anyone's interest I will venture an opinion.
