Interesting find on Google Maps

Post by Adam J Purcell »

It's recently been pointed out to me that Google Maps gives some interesting results...

Try this: Bring up Google Maps (maps.google.co.uk). Click on the 'Local Search' link at the top. In the 'What' box type 'brothel' (yes, brothel). In the 'Where' box type 'Crawley'.

The results?
A) Magic of the Orient Ltd
B) Crawley News
C) KLM/Northwest Airlines Operations

There is clearly more going on at the Crawley News than I realised!

I wondered where a Dutch Airline would operate from, now I know...

Of course, it has to be asked why you were looking for brothels in Crawley....

Actually (and not wishing to spoil any fun had on Adam's behalf) this was on the back pages of Computing Today or one of the trade rags recently. Basically if you stick in any town with 'brothels' it comes up with the weirdest answers.

Search engines are funny things. Go to Argos and type in "chav" and you get a display of cheap gold chains ... only because chains is the nearest guess it makes when it doesn't understand what you mean by chav.

Some other famous online retailer (I forget which one) would display a picture of Caprice in a push up bra when you enter the word "jugs". There's a free pint for anyone who can guess why.
