I thought it was excellent, or perhaps I should say 'fantastic'!
I thought I might be disappointed, what with all the hype, expectations and the writer. I certainly wasn't though. RTD was still the weakest writer of the last season, for me, but there was no sign of that here.
Lots of good bits, some of my favourite being (in no particular order): the new look UNIT (and their base being in the Tower of London! I've been there!), the PM's TV address begging the Doctor for help, the PM's message for the US President, Rose sensing the danger in the market, "No second chances", "Don't you think she looks tired", etc.!
I think he's going to make a great Doctor. I suspect I will even think him better than Eccleston (I certainly prefer Tennant's costume - there's a Doctor Who costume I'd actually like to wear for real!) He has a sense of humour about him, no mad gurning like Eccleston, but there's definately a darker edge there. This is clearly a Doctor you don't get on the wrong side of, as the Sycorax leader or Harriet Jones can attest to - no second chances for either of them.
Billie was excellent, as ever. How many other companions burst into tears after losing 'their' Doctor (and convincingly too, not just a few sniffles into a hankie!)
All in all, an excellent Christmas story and an excellent introduction to the new Doctor. Having him unconscious for most of it actually worked very well, I thought. Also very good to finally see another room in the TARDIS! Although this room was already mentioned in The Unquiet Dead, I believe, so its existance shouldn't be a surprise even to new fans.
Anyway, I am very much looking forward to the new episodes, even, maybe, the one with the dodgy looking cat people...

Tennant looks like he's going to be a pretty decent replacement for Eccleston and it was a shame that nearly 3/4 of the story elapsed before he put in much of an appearance. I also thought the script was a bit 'Who by Numbers' and I could have done without the desperate attempt to shoehorn in the obligatory Star Wars reference. Some nice touches though, the Doctor being revived by tea is classic camp Who and the A positive blood thingy leading a third of the human race to the brink of death was good too. Overall, it was OK but an hour isn't really enough to have a good story, introduce a new Doctor and clumsily set us up for Torchwood all at the same time.

I agree with Bill..it was 'ok' - typical rtd lightweight fluff. Could have done with more of tennant as it only really took off when he was on screen.

If Jackie is meant to be comic relief, the joke has died a death.
Not enough visiting other planets and kicking alien butt; too much going home for chips.
For a guy who claims he 'doesn't do domestic' the Doc seems to spend a lot of time visiting 'mum'.
How many hours until the new series? <withdrawl symptoms at frustration factor 9>

Do not be so quick to dismiss them.They do have their moments and have indirectly helped the Doctor and Rose out of a couple of scrapes.If it hadn't been for Jackie banging a friend of a friend,they would not have had the use of the tow truck to open up the heart of the TARDIS and thus return Rose to save the Doctor from the Daleks in 'Parting Of The Ways'
