Torchwood Double-Bill to end Series One

Post by tallorder »

Hot on the heels of the recommission and move to BBC Two... the Christmas Radio Times reveals that the series ends with a double-bill from 2130 on New Year's Day.

Of course, that's after we've enjoyed 'The Sarah Jane Adventures' pilot "Invasion of the Bane" that afternoon.

Also, don't forget new BBC7 McGann audios begin on New Year's Eve at 1800/midnight, Pt. 1 of "Blood of the Daleks"

Oh, and there's "The Runaway Bride" on Christmas Day.

We never had it so good!

Torchwood is getting a second season? I'm quite surprised by that. Besides the continuity issues it might throw up with Jack appearing in Doctor Who next year, I also didn't think it was doing well enough to justify the expense. I'll have to pick up a Radio Times at lunchtime! BBC Two? Hmm. I think they'll have to improve their game a bit next year, Torchwood is okay (sometimes even good) but it's never been excellent for me (and certainly nothing like unmissable).

The Sarah Jane Adventures. Why do I keep thinking of the K9 and Company theme tune but with K9 saying 'Sarah Jane' rather than 'K9' during the music?

That's one busy New Year's day. I reserve judgement on Sarah Jane and Company, the Torchwood double-bill and even the McGann audios. My guess is another 'okay' reaction to each of those. Hoping for more but Big Finish's Doctor Who audios were getting rather stagnant for me (to the point where I've basically stopped buying them), the McGann ones tended to be the blandest of the bunch in the past. Sarah Jane and Company is clearly aimed at kids more than Who is - that doesn't help the odds. Torchwood - well, I've learnt not to expect too much from that, hoping for a pleasant surprise, though.

The Runaway Bride. That's where my real hopes are this Christmas. I really liked the Christmas Invasion, in fact it's probably somewhere in that 'top 10 favourite Doctor Who stories' for me. I don't know where exactly but it's certainly one of my most watched Doctor Who DVDs (Rose, the episode, strangely being another).

So, my hopes are on Christmas Day (not forgetting the Cardiff Concert, too), the rest would be a bonus.
