a special radio show.....ITS THE SEA DEVILS!!!!!

Post by macfadyan »

Hello there

Im doing a special show on Saturday the 31st March at 3pm uk time, 10 am daylight saving time, to celebrate the return of Doctor Who to BBC1. Celebrating the world's longest running science fiction show (accept no gate-ing substitutes! :P ) this show will be a musical voyage from 1963 to present day featuring all sorts of different styles of music used in the show.

From the musique concrete of the early sixties, to the fab n groovy late sixities sillyness, from the unusual Moog 'stylings' of the early seventies to the deluge of 'Deadly' Dudley Simpson for the rest of that decade, from the Yamaha and Roland synth music of the early eighties to the 'studio in your bedroom' soundtracks of the late eighties, from the TV Movie right up to the new series that began in 2005, finishing up at the Runaway Bride and Torchwood. This show will have some very odd sounds indeed with rare tracks aplenty for Doctor Who fans as well as some of the more glorious compositions from the BBC Radiophonic Workshop and the series' current composer, Murrey Gold.

A bit specialised, I know, hence the timeslot, but even if you wince at some of the electronic 'music', Im sure that some of the orchestral or synth stuff will put a smile on your face....

toodles for now, yes?

Shouldn't it be called:

Look out! It's the Sea Devils!
or
When Sea Devils Attack!
or
The Wail (Whale?!) of the Sea Devils
or
Those amazing fishy smelling Sea Devils and their incredible acrobatic stunt doubles?
or
Are those bleeps meant to be music?
or
The Musical Shower of Murray's Gold?

Thanks for sorting out my log in, Adam, my vote goes to "Sea Devil Brat Camp".

... and to MacFadyan, I'm the last person to wince at electronic music. I trust you'll be featuring Delia Derbyshire and David Vorhaus's collaboration album "White Noise, An Electric Storm"?

well, I do rather have to stay on topic - however, I may be able to squeeze in 'Ziuze Ziuze, ooh, ooh' ofr whatever its called, lol as an example of early stuff, I dunno.

As it is expect blue veils and goldern sands and possibly the delain mode. Other tracks will include soemthing from the sea devils, something from, oh bod, death to the daleks, three guitars from an unearthly child and of course, space adventure - the 60's cybermen theme. There should also be soemthing from the Invasion, some stuff from mind of evil and claws of axos, a rerecording of a bit of genesis of the daleks, some season 18 stuff - probably a bit of howell and kingsland something from the five doctors, a bit of fenric and possibly remembrance of the daleks (shudder) a track from the tv movie, all topped off with a few tracks from the current series as well as something from Torchwood.

well, thats the rough plan..depends on the timing, to be honest....

oh yeah, I cocked up the timing announcements on the trailer, so Ill be posting a new one here shortly
