Just picked up some announcements confirmed on OG - mainly from the BAFTAS
CONFIRMED for Series 2 - Billie in all the eps... with Euros Lyn (End Of The World & Unquiet Dead) and James Hawes (Empty Child/Doctor Dances) directing again. And Grahame Harper (Androzani/Revelation of the Daleks) to direct a 4 episode block.
Then another Christmas Special (for 2006)
Then Series 3 - another 13 eps. It looks like Series 2 & 3 will go into pre-production at the same time.
Well F**k Me! I'm glad I popped on to OG before I went to bed.
I love the BBC... and I can't wait for Saturday. TV Times front cover is a bit of a spoiler though!
Fantastic! (I wonder what Tennant's Doctor's catch phrase will be?)
Very good news indeed - with the possible exception that RTD is writing two extra episodes next year over and above the ones we already knew about (the second Holiday Special and the episode where they hadn't assigned a writer.) He may yet redeem himself with The Parting of the Ways, however...
I'm not sure I can stomach two Christmas themed episodes in as many years, though. Perhaps Christmas 2006 will be set in a different time/place? Let's hope so.
Perhaps the BBC have learnt their lesson about planning these things only season by season? Let's pray they don't change the Doctor again for season 3. Even if Tennant fails to find the role (if that's possible given the Doctor is pretty much actor-proof) I think it would still be a bad (fatal?) mistake to change yet again so soon. Looks like this announcement shows they are thinking the same thing.
As for Billie Piper, I'm very happy to hear she'll be along for all of season 2 but I don't expect her to stay for season 3 You never know, though...
Sounds like mainly good news with the directors too. Euros Lyn did well with the Unquiet Dead, I thought. James Hawes did very well with his story, to my mind. Grahame Harper did a good job with Androzani (I know Keith will disagree with that but this is all a matter of taste, I suppose). So, for my tastes, they have all worked on very good or better stories.
All looking very positive. Shame they are looking at a March start again. Perhaps they can bust through these two seasons so the first can go out in March and the second in October? Then season 4 the following October? We can dream! You never know, that might also have played into this good decision of theirs...
