And verily the Lord did say, "Givest me an episode that is both scary and amusing, well written and well designed so that all my Whovians can go 'wow!' and bounce up and down with glee."
And so it came to pass that The Impossible Planet part 1 did achieve all those things and there was much rejoycing and wishing that next Saturday would arrive quickly.
A wonderful episode, all round! A touch slow at times but it more than made up for it with everything else. Some incredible cinematography - they really pulled all the stops out with the production values, I thought. That crane shot looking down on Rose and the Doctor was a superb example. All that trouble for that one tiny little shot but what a brilliant moment it was.
Really tense and claustrophobic stuff. I have high hopes for next week.
Hopefully this signals the return to form for the series. I thought last weeks was great and this has all the makings of one of the most memorable stories, perhaps, ever. Maybe I can write off the Cybermisadventure as this years Aliens of London.
I'm not totally convinced yet. This episode set the scene well but it's all going to hinge on the conclusion. Perhaps I'm just in a pessemistic mood but I detected a bit of padding in the first and I'm wondering if this might have been better as a single parter. Considering how much was crammed into Fireplace, it shows it can be done.
Don't get me started on black holes though !!
